Los Tres Certámenes

Los Tres Certámenes

Back in November, the Tuna of Maastricht traveled to the student city of Coimbra in Portugal for a wonderful festival. We gained some friends, traded experiences and lost some instruments. In the end, we made off with the price for Best Serenade and Tuna mas Tuna.

Only a few months later, we headed to Nerja, a town near Malaga, for another certamen. Old friends were reunited, new friends shared a drink and this time we came home carrying all our instruments. Once again we received the price for Tuna mas Tuna, and achieved the Most Romantic Ronda as well.

In April, we will try to defend our standing mas Tuna record at the festival in Dos Hermanas near Seville. This time accompanied by the Tuniñas from Eindhoven, we will once again face the scorching sun of Andalusia to show the unbeatable musical skill of the Netherlands.

Winners of the Festival

Winners of the Festival

The official competition of the Tunafestival turned out to be a very competitive indeed, as the Jury was simply overwhelmed with the quality of the music and the enthusiasm of the groups in all the parts. While during the stage performance in the theatre it seemed like the crowd had picked its favourite Tuna, the serenades and the march seemed to be very open. Certainly, one of the most challenging parts was judging the street parade, as the jurors needed to keep an eye on all groups throughout most of the route. On Sunday evening, the winners of all prizes were anounced:

Premio a la Mejor Tuna (Best Tuna) - Tuna Bruna - Tuna Universitaria Figueira da Foz
Premio a la 2ª Mejor Tuna (Second Best Tuna) - Tuna de Ingenieros Técnicos Agrícolas de Sevilla
Premio a la Tuna más Tuna (Most Tuna Spirit)  - Tuna de Aparejadores de Granada
Premio a la Mejor Serenata (Best Serenade ) - Tuna de Ingemiería Técnica Industrial Málaga
Premio al Mejor Pasacalles (Best Group in the parade) – Tuna de Ciencias de Valencia
Premio al Mejor Solista (Beste Solist ) - Tuna de la Universidad de Alcalá de Henares

France gets a taste of Tunafestival Maastricht

France gets a taste of Tunafestival Maastricht

Last week an eager and corageous group of young Tunafestival enthusiasts went on a mission to spread the word of our upcoming Tunafestival throughout the streets of Europe. While spending a few days travelling through France our guerillo promoters entertained their audiences with music and history of the Tuna tradition. At the same time they made sure that the French mark the dates of our festival in their calendar as the most important musical event of the year, right next to Fête de la Musique! By making use of their distinct cultural sensitivity, the guerillos were able to show that the Maastricht Tunafestival also perfectly fits the French way of life. Take a look at the picture gallery to see their traces. Click here for more news
