 Tuna de Maastricht

Our group was founded in the year 1992 by a half Dutch, half Spaniard, who studied at the University of Maastricht. After living and studying in Spain, he obtained full membership of a Spanish group, the University of Oviedo. Therefore he was eligble to start a new Tuna at the University of Maastricht, after returning to complete his studies in the Netherlands.

The total number of members has long reached the magical mark of 50, though this is divided into several study generations, as everyone starts and finishes his studies at different periods in time. Tuna Universitatria de Maastricht can claim to be one of the, if not, THE most international Tuna group around the globe. Members come from amongst others Germany, France, Ireland, Lithuania, Brazil and as far as China. The common language is thereby a mix of Spanish, Dutch and English.

Some of the highlights in the groups history include playing for the Queen of the Netherlands, Queen Beatrix, as well as for the mayors of Maastricht as well as ministers and mayors from all across the Netherlands. The group has travelled amongst others all the way to Florida (USA), Mexico, Sweden and Madeira. On a regular basis we attend festivals in Spain and Portugal, and have been honoured to even win a few prizes!
